About Mike

Mike Overman has served on the St Anthony-New Brighton School Board since being elected in 2021 - but maybe you already knew that - because you’re here, you’re dedicated, you’re devoting your time to research - you want the backstory.

The first thing to know about Mike is he ranks 4th in order of importance in his household. This is based on a scientific study where he would’ve finished 6th but the dogs split their votes. The other members of this household are Marnie, his wife, and his two kids, Maude and Malone. Maude is headed to St Anthony Village High School this fall as a freshman and Malone will be in his second year at SAMS as a 7th grader. Together, they are the Overman family.

The Overmans moved to St Anthony in 2014 and Mike plugged into serving the community by joining the ECFE Parent Advisory Council. There he helped plan and run pre-K focused events such as the Fall Carnival at the Community Center. As his kids aged out he transitioned to the SANBE Foundation, a nonprofit whose objective is providing grants for teachers in the St Anthony-New Brighton district. He served as treasurer during his tenure with the foundation, and in addition chaired their primary fundraiser, SAV for the Future (which later morphed into the SANBE Soiree). Mike enjoys theater - attending and performing - and has had a couple of wonderful runs with the St Anthony Community Theater during their summer productions.

He had a decade-long gig as a stay at home parent, keeping busy as a regular Wilshire Park volunteer and substitute teacher. As a substitute, he enjoyed getting to know the kids and learning how classrooms operate. He saw the importance of making sure every student got a chance, and continues to believe students and teachers must get the support they need to succeed in the classroom.

Mike’s professional background is in finance and accounting (for companies large & small) and currently works as a VP of Finance & Operations for an independent film company. His day to day work balancing long term vision while understanding the day to day operational requirements to keep a complex operation going are a good match for what a school board must understand and evaluate.
